“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” – John 17 v 3.
There is one truth we can all agree to, i.e. a person is more inclined to share the innermost of his secrets with the one he feels closest to and has a level of trust in. It would be considered absurd if we begin to share our personal matters with a complete stranger. Intimate issues and matters of the heart are often reserved and disclosed to those close to us and with whom we trust. This human principle is also true spiritually.
The Lord is a friend to those who fear Him and His convent is revealed to them (Psalm 25 v 14). This is reserved for those who have a relationship with God, which is beyond the superficial, that fear Him and truly know His ways. For many of us, we barely know the Lord when the Spirit convicts us to come to Him and we are instructed to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (2nd Peter 3 v 18). We do this by having a constant hunger and thirst for Him. Like Paul, we should never be satisfied with just knowing Him, but to continue to press forward unto perfection (Philippians 3 v 12).
To desire a deeper walk with the Lord is to trust in Him and obey His commandments. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way. This was the glory that Enoch, a man who walked deeply with God, received when he was taken up into Heaven (Genesis 5 vs 22-24). We may not be taken up into Heaven like Enoch, but God will certainly reveal the beauty of His face to us. The Lord talks like a friend to those who walk closely with Him, His presence is always with them, giving them rest (Exodus 33 vs 11-15).
Our deeper walk with the Lord engenders a more intense hunger to know Him. When we truly taste of the Lord and know how good He is, our appetite for Him will grow stronger. As the song “More of You” goes; the more I know you, the more I want to know you, Jesus, more of you. There is no greater joy that can be remotely compared to knowing and walking closer with the Lord. There is no greater wisdom we can attain outside of that which the Lord gives to those who walk deeply with Him.
When God draws us to Him, it is His Spirit that brings us nearer into the knowledge of who He is. Without the Spirit, we cannot have an intimate relationship with the Lord.
Dear brothers and Sisters, yearn deeply to have a more personal relationship with the Father. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a Spirit of wisdom and of revelation, so that you may know Him more (Ephesians 1 v 17) and begin to experience the joy and peace of a deeper walk with Him.
God Bless You,
